Ladies and gentlemen, we give you a nominee for the 2008 ‘game of the year.’ The 49ers and Cardinals ended up giving most viewers way more than they bargained for. It wasn’t even because the game came down to the wire with one final play, but mainly because the game was close at all.

The Niners came in as nine point ‘dogs in the desert, but in the end barely lost to Arizona 29-24. Although the entertainment value was high, the game lacked discipline from both sides as the teams racked up a combined 20 penalties for 164 total yards. Read more »

This Oakland Raiders situation has turned into a real mud slinging party. By the time Lane Kiffin’s firing disappears from the headlines, we will have heard from every former Raiders player, coach, towel boy, janitor and secretary about how [fill in the blank] Al Davis is as an owner. This is what happens when your coach-firing news conference turns into a public pimp slapping. People are going to have opinions.

Monte Poole of the Oakland Tribune points out that Davis seems to be learning from his mistakes and plans to hand over more football control. This franchise, the way I see it, isn’t light years away from contending. It just needs a little jolt, one that would come from Davis taking a step back from the football operations. Read more »

With all but two games (MNF and the Ravens at Texans match-up moved to November 9 because of Hurricane Ike) said and done in Week 2, it’s time once again to award those who put forth influential fantasy performances. And, when seven teams post 30+ points, a lot of guys are going to be deserving of recognition.
 
We’ll start in Denver where seven passing touchdowns and more than 940 yards of combined offense tell the tale of two division rivals who found themselves in the middle of a good old fashioned shootout.
