The free fall continues. I ended Week 8 with a 4-8-2 record. At 51-61-4 on the year, my goal of a .700 win percentage may seem like a pipe dream, but I wouldn’t go away just yet. Read more »

Panic is setting isn’t quite setting into the New York Jets locker room, but it’s not far off. It was about 15 yards away - as in the winning TD toss to Laveranues Coles with a minute to play - on Sunday when New York went down to the wire against a hapless Chiefs team.

The Jets were able to overcome three Brett Favre interceptions and escape with a 28-24 home win.

With the win, New York improved to 4-3, but the moderate success has been more a product of the team’s schedule than its performance. The cushy schedule, which has included three wins over last-place teams Miami, Cincinnati and Kansas City, gives way to road contests against Buffalo, New England and Tennessee in the next four weeks. Gridiron Game Notes: The Walking Wounded

Posted by Dustin Hockensmith

NFL quarterbacks are dropping faster than bad guys in a cheesy Sly Stallone movie. Only, instead of bringing disgrace to the box office, these walking wounded are exiting games early, being scratched from starts late, and piling up losses for fantasy owners.

The Big 3 have been at the front of the line, obviously highlighted by Tom Brady’s season-ending knee injury in Week 1. Peyton Manning is only now himself after two offseason knee surgeries contributed to an uncharacteristic slow start, and Tony Romo is on the shelf for the next month with a broken pinkie finger. Big Bertha’s Week 6 Hardware

Posted by Mike Bertha

Week 6 of NFL action is in the books and “exciting” doesn’t quite do Sunday’s events any justice. Six games were decided by one score or less; 11 guys had at least 100 yards receiving; and multiple first place teams fell to lesser opponents.

MJD won MVP honors, and for the third week in a row I’ll attempt to pick a Waiver Wire Special to help the collective fantasy world limp through the NFL’s Week 7 schedule. And with all the last-second heroics witnessed throughout the league, this week’s highlight reel is a can’t miss.

Big Bertha’s back to reward the worthy with Week 6 hardware. Read more »

The Fantasy NFL 101: Week 6 Player Rankings

Posted by Dustin Hockensmith

Some new faces crack our top 101 rankings, but the list has the same distinct look to it with a virtually unaltered top 10. That could change next week, though, because Vikings running back Adrian Peterson is officially on probation as our top-ranked player. The only question standing in the way of a Week 6 demotion is, who else deserves the top spot?

LaDainian Tomlinson has issues of his own and comes off a lackluster Week 5 effort. Frank Gore is having a fine, fine season, but his game just doesn’t scream “best player in fantasy football.” Clinton Portis is ever-so-slowly inching his way there, but doesn’t have half the big-game explosion of Peterson. We knew going in that Peterson would be inconsistent, so he gets at least one more week to prove just how good he can be. Read more »

Questioning Questionable Players

Posted by Mike Bertha

As the season progresses and players begin to feel the wear and tear of a 16-game schedule, fantasy owners face a problem they didn’t face in the first few weeks. The NFL injury report lengthens each week, which forces owners to make hair-pulling decisions in their lineups. Problems cannot be solved on the waiver wire, so roster depth and viable bench options become the key to victory.

As Week 5 approaches, many guys may see little to no action due to lingering injuries that limited their practice time. Philadelphia’s Brian Westbrook is nursing a sprained ankle from two weeks ago. Cincinnati’s Carson Palmer has a sore throwing elbow. Baltimore’s Willis McGahee has rib problems, and Big Ben has a whole slew of battle wounds in Pittsburgh. Read more »

Two of the most outspoken, flamboyant, and egotistical wide receivers will be on the same field this Sunday in Dallas. For Chad Ocho Cinco (formerly Chad Johnson) and Terrell Owens, Week 5’s Bengals at Cowboys matchup will be much more than just a regular season game.

The media in both Cincinnati and Dallas has feasted on the two loud-mouth receivers, who have offered up a mixed smorgasbord of both complaints and trash talk all this week.

The Bengals’ Ocho Cinco has promised to “kiss the Dallas star” on the field in Texas Stadium this Sunday, and has even asked for at least nine rows of seats for his family and friends to see the game. Read more »

The Fantasy NFL 101: Week 5 Player Rankings

Posted by Dustin Hockensmith

Consider player rankings in the same light as your typical college basketball or football rankings. Once the early adjustments are made to take care of teams and players we underestimated and overestimated, only big events should spur big changes. While a multitude of upsets took place last week in college football, there were far fewer landscape-altering events in fantasy football.

Brett Favre’s six-touchdown effort against Arizona was the closest thing to Oregon State’s shocking upset of USC last Thursday. With that outburst, Favre surged to the top of fantasy quarterback rankings and took the NFL lead with 12 touchdown passes. The big boys in our top 10 held down the fort, even Philadelphia’s Brian Westbrook, who has caused owners headaches with a nagging right ankle injury, and Dallas’ Marion Barber, who carried just eight times in a loss to the Redskins. Week 3 Injury Updates

Posted by Scott Uhing

Some big-name playmakers are hurting going into Week 3, leaving many fantasy owners scrambling for replacements. Among the most valuable fantasy assets banged up heading into the third weekend, Adrian Peterson, LaDainian Tomlinson, and Braylon Edwards are all on teams that face the NFL abyss that is 0-3.

Some of the top fantasy athletes in this young season may be on the shelf this weekend, so their owners had better beware in several of these cases: Read more »

Heading into Week 3, the difference between 2-0 and 0-2 is catastrophic. Has your team survived the inevitable crapshoot that is the first few weeks, or has it succumb the unpredictable nature of fantasy football?
