Flexing Your Muscles: Week 5 RB/WR Options

Last week we told you to start players like Steve Slaton, Corell Buckhalter, Isaac Bruce and Roddy White in the flex position. Those players, among others, rewarded their fantasy owners with good results. Players that are hot, getting a chance because of injury, or at least assured touches are always useful for the flex spot and as bye-week or injury replacements.

Regardless, every week owners are put to the test with the critical decisions in the flex spot that can determine the outcome of your game. If you have guys like RB DeAngelo Williams going against a struggling Chiefs run defense or WR Amani Toomer, who is stepping up as New York’s primary receiver, feel comfortable putting them, among the eight others below, into the flex slot in Week 5.

Week 4 is the first for bye weeks, and that means many owners will be missing their full complement of players. You may be reaching for your bench for the first time this year, especially at the flex position. This is where your late-round drafting or early-season free agent pickups will come in handy.

Regardless, every week owners are put to the test with the critical decisions in the flex spot that can determine the outcome of their matchups. If you have guys like RB Chris Perry going against the Browns’ suspect run defense or WR Ike Hilliard facing a banged up Green Bay secondary, feel comfortable putting them, among others, into the flex slot in Week 3. Week 4 Free Agent Profiles: QB, RB, WR

Let the bye weeks begin! Now, more than ever, fantasy owners will be scrambling to the waiver wire to find help in keeping their teams together for the next six weeks. And while there are no fantasy saviors available in most leagues, help can still be had in the form of “upside-challenged” veterans and young, emerging talent.
 
More change could be in the air in coming weeks, especially at the quarterback position, but for now, Brian Griese, Kerry Collins and Gus Frerotte can keep teams afloat. Youngsters Brady Quinn and Drew Stanton could be getting their shots in Cleveland and Detroit, respectively, any day now, but aren’t worthy of full endorsements just yet. Read more »
