Big Bertha’s Week 13 Hardware

Posted by Mike Bertha

This year fantasy owners should be thankful for the multiple servings of monster fantasy performances that proved a great compliment to the turkey and mashed potatoes on Thursday. Chris Johnson, LenDale White, Tony Romo, Jason Witten, Donovan McNabb, and Brian Westbrook all handed in ridiculous stat lines on their holiday at the office.

A Baltimore blowout, a Green Bay-Carolina game that went down to the wire, and three one-sided weekday affairs made Week 13 an interesting chapter in the NFL’s saga of 2008. Read more »

Big Bertha’s Week 9 Hardware

Posted by Mike Bertha

So, Week 9 is in the books and it was boring.

A lot of sloppy offense. A lot of field goals. A lot of mediocrity across the board in the fantasy world. Two overtime games. Mike Shanahan shaking things up in the fantasy world as usual, and an 0-7 Bengals team erasing the goose-egg as it toppled the Jags.

But lucky for you, Big Bertha has sifted through the rubble of the Week 9 yawn fest to bring the best of Sunday’s standouts and blunders. This is your Week 9 hardware. Read more »

Will Romo’s Return Unlock Cowboys Potential?

Posted by Dustin Hockensmith

Fantasy owners don’t much care about the turmoil in Dallas. That locker room can be a carnival or soap opera, but if the results on the field are there, why should we care? We all know that hasn’t been the case in recent weeks, which begs the question, does the return of quarterback Tony Romo (broken pinkie) immediately solve the team’s problems?

In the last two games with Brad Johnson and Brooks Bollinger under center, running back Marion Barber has averaged just 2.8 yards per carry. For the season, Barber is averaging a career-worst 3.5 ypc. Read more »

Steven Jackson: Second Half Star

Posted by Dustin Hockensmith

Fantasy owners can breathe a collective sigh of relief.

St. Louis Rams running back Steven Jackson was diagnosed with a slightly strained thigh, according to the St. Louis-Dispatch. He expects to play Sunday after posting big numbers in a surprising 34-14 win over Dallas in Week 7. Jackson had easily his best game of the season, rushing 25 times for 160 yards and three touchdowns.

This was a moment Jackson owners have been waiting for since drafting him with a top-five pick in fantasy drafts. He had failed to deliver big results until Week 6 at Washington, but his early struggles should be discounted because of the state of the Rams franchise and the quality of run defenses he was facing. Alright, back to square one. After a 5-9 Week 6, I’m back at an even .500 (43-43-2) on the year. All I can say is that if the Rams can win a game, then I can come up with a big week.

Before looking at the picks, let’s all visualize the unbeaten Titans and try to block out the negative energy of teams like the Bengals and Lions who have combined for an 0-11 start to the year. OK, that’s enough visualizing. It’s go time! Read more »

Soap Opera Continues in ‘Big D’

Posted by Scott Uhing

Now Romo wants to play? Pacman’s in trouble again? Roy Williams and T.O. on the same field?

It seems like every week things get crazier in ‘Big D’. How could you not compare this year’s Dallas Cowboys team to some of the most popular shows on daytime television? Despite the comparison, you’ll find out why “Days of Our Lives”, “The Young and the Restless” and “As the World Turns” have nothing on arguably the NFL’s most popular, and certainly dysfunctional, franchise.

Things started swimmingly for the Cowboys back in September. The ‘Boys were fresh off a division title, and although they didn’t win their only playoff game last season, appeared to be the NFC East favorite again. Dallas reeled off three straight wins to open 2008, highlighted by a Monday night shootout victory over the Eagles 41-37 and a big 27-16 road win against the Packers the following Sunday night. Ocho Cinco promises to kiss the star in Dallas.

Miami tries to slay another AFC giant.

Defending champs suspend their biggest playmaker.

Bills and Titans are unbeaten.

A big-time NFC East clash. Yeah, just another week in the NFL.

After a solid 8-5 record in Week 4, Raisin’ Brant currently sits at 32-27-1 against the spread this season. I am feeling a big week ahead … let’s take a look at the picks! Read more »

Two of the most outspoken, flamboyant, and egotistical wide receivers will be on the same field this Sunday in Dallas. For Chad Ocho Cinco (formerly Chad Johnson) and Terrell Owens, Week 5’s Bengals at Cowboys matchup will be much more than just a regular season game.

The media in both Cincinnati and Dallas has feasted on the two loud-mouth receivers, who have offered up a mixed smorgasbord of both complaints and trash talk all this week.

The Bengals’ Ocho Cinco has promised to “kiss the Dallas star” on the field in Texas Stadium this Sunday, and has even asked for at least nine rows of seats for his family and friends to see the game. Read more »

Week 5 NFL Team Power Rankings

Posted by Brian Lauer

Another week in the NFL has meant another week of NFC dominance. The NFC East, which sent three teams to the playoffs last year, is dominating through the first four weeks. All four teams are in the top 10 of Imaginary Gridiron’s power rankings, and the Eagles are sure to rise once Brian Westbrook (ankle) is healthy.

The undefeated Bills and Titans are the class of the AFC thus far, while the Colts and Patriots look to re-gain their historical dominance coming off bye weeks. Both teams need to get healthy and address shortcomings in a hurry in order to contend for playoff berths. Read more »

If you have ever been sucker-punched in the gut, you know exactly how I feel after a dreadful Week 3. The 5-11 performance leaves the one and only Raisin’ Brant at a disappointing, but manageable, 24-22-1 through three weeks.

Week 4 has got it all: quarterback questions (Rams, Chiefs, Browns), injured stars (RB Willie Parker and DE Jason Taylor ruled out for respective divisional matchups), even GM firings (… and fans in Detroit rejoice). With all of that and more playing into the picks, this week is the trickiest one to date. Read more »
