Big Bertha’s Week 13 Hardware

Posted by Mike Bertha

This year fantasy owners should be thankful for the multiple servings of monster fantasy performances that proved a great compliment to the turkey and mashed potatoes on Thursday. Chris Johnson, LenDale White, Tony Romo, Jason Witten, Donovan McNabb, and Brian Westbrook all handed in ridiculous stat lines on their holiday at the office.

A Baltimore blowout, a Green Bay-Carolina game that went down to the wire, and three one-sided weekday affairs made Week 13 an interesting chapter in the NFL’s saga of 2008. Read more »

Will Romo’s Return Unlock Cowboys Potential?

Posted by Dustin Hockensmith

Fantasy owners don’t much care about the turmoil in Dallas. That locker room can be a carnival or soap opera, but if the results on the field are there, why should we care? We all know that hasn’t been the case in recent weeks, which begs the question, does the return of quarterback Tony Romo (broken pinkie) immediately solve the team’s problems?

In the last two games with Brad Johnson and Brooks Bollinger under center, running back Marion Barber has averaged just 2.8 yards per carry. For the season, Barber is averaging a career-worst 3.5 ypc. Read more »

The free fall continues. I ended Week 8 with a 4-8-2 record. At 51-61-4 on the year, my goal of a .700 win percentage may seem like a pipe dream, but I wouldn’t go away just yet. Read more »

Between draft day busts, first half injuries, and bye weeks fantasy owners have had their work cut out so far in 2008. With the options listed below, many owners will have the opportunity to bolster their rosters before they have to struggle through the middle of the season.

Pay close attention to the matchups every week because often times a player’s opponent is more important than the player himself. Especially with D/ST’s, it may be easier to pick up a team playing an awful offense than it is to pick up a quality defense. Read more »

Big Bertha’s Week 8 Hardware

Posted by Mike Bertha

Week 8 is officially a closed chapter in the NFL saga of 2008. That means it’s time to dish out some Week 8 hardware.

Things are going right in Philly as running back Brian Westbrook returned from injury to take home MVP honors, while last week’s top star Steven Jackson sat this one out with an injury of his own. The circus that is the Dallas Cowboys continues to cause fantasy woes and Seahawks posted 35 points without John Carlson or Julius Jones finding the endzone. Read more »

The NFL season is more than one-third complete and its been an exciting six weeks. Now that we have a relatively decent grasp on what’s occurred and what to expect for the rest of the ‘08 campaign I thought it would be a good time to sit back, analyze some results and talk about the immediate future of the NFL. Soap Opera Continues in ‘Big D’

Posted by Scott Uhing

Now Romo wants to play? Pacman’s in trouble again? Roy Williams and T.O. on the same field?

It seems like every week things get crazier in ‘Big D’. How could you not compare this year’s Dallas Cowboys team to some of the most popular shows on daytime television? Despite the comparison, you’ll find out why “Days of Our Lives”, “The Young and the Restless” and “As the World Turns” have nothing on arguably the NFL’s most popular, and certainly dysfunctional, franchise.

Things started swimmingly for the Cowboys back in September. The ‘Boys were fresh off a division title, and although they didn’t win their only playoff game last season, appeared to be the NFC East favorite again. Dallas reeled off three straight wins to open 2008, highlighted by a Monday night shootout victory over the Eagles 41-37 and a big 27-16 road win against the Packers the following Sunday night. Week 3 Position Rankings: Tight Ends

Posted by Mike Bertha

As the NFL and the collective fantasy world gear up for Week 3 action, questions come to mind. Are two of the top seven statistical tight ends really Miami Dolphins? Did the Oakland Raiders really win by 15 points last week? Is Gus Frerotte the answer to the Vikings’ troubles? Will the Rams hold a team to under 35 points even once this season?

The answers (yes, sadly yes, apparently, and don’t hold your breath) may make life in the fantasy world a little more complicated than usual. Read more »
